Our Story

How We Met

It all began August 17, 2014, when Diana and Billy attended a Washington Nationals baseball game in Washington, D.C., to which they had been invited by mutual friends. They instantly hit it off, but it wasn’t until a few weeks later when they ran into each other on the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland, that they exchanged contact information. They became fast friends with each other while continuing to play the field, but within three months Diana and Billy decided to start an exclusive relationship. In 2018, Diana and Billy moved into a condo in the suburbs of D.C., and in 2020, they became dog parents to their beloved Pomeranian, Mallory.

The Proposal

Diana and Billy tossed around the idea of getting married for years, but it wasn’t until Billy threw Diana a curveball and told her he wanted to become Catholic, that a wedding seemed like it might become a reality.  After Billy was confirmed in the church, they began Catholic marriage preparation. After a period of discernment, Billy was certain he wanted Diana as his wife, so they decided to set a wedding date with the church that was before the end of this year. With a family diamond that had been saved for Diana by her mother,  Billy took Diana to choose a custom engagement ring setting. While the ring was being crafted, Diana started planning the wedding.
On October 23, Billy told Diana he would be home later than usual because there was a last-minute staff meeting being held after he was done teaching. When he got home, Billy suggested they go on a “family walk” with Mallory. As Billy knelt to put on Mallory’s harness, he opened a blue and gold ring-sized box, and to Diana’s surprise, popped the question.

Wedding Party

Kim Boyd

In the spring of 1993, Kim and Diana met at college during a bonfire pig roast hosted by the Theta Chi fraternity and bonded instantly. Kindred spirits, they decided to be roommates, and have been best friends ever since.
Since Kim is an only child and Diana’s only sibling is a brother who is seven years older, their relationship is much like that of sisters.“We look similar and are so close that people have asked us if we were twins,” Diana said. “The ‘Sisters’ duet in the movie White Christmas, which we love, says it all.”

Kyle Pequeno

Billy and Kyle met in seventh grade math class. They hit it off immediately due to their shared sense of humor. They found each other’s jokes so hilarious that after school Billy and Kyle often ended up laughing more than finishing their homework. (It also didn’t help that neither of them liked arithmetic.)  Billy and Kyle also bonded over their shared interests in professional wrestling, video games, and comic books.

Kyle is wise, witty, and empathetic, Billy said. “Talking to him always feels comfortable. He’s a true friend in every season of life.”

A Mid-December Wedding’s
Well-Wishing Poem

As a married couple,
we know we will need
some funds for future endeavors,
and emergencies.
The past decade has shown us that, indeed.
To that end, we thought it might be
a good idea to create a cash registry.
If you want to put a monetary gift in the well,
don’t forget to make a wish,
but shhh, don't tell!
Once we have replaced the old
with the new,
we will certainly look back and say
it was all thanks to you.
It must be noted here though,
that no matter in what way
you show your love
or wish us well today,
your always being there for us,
present in our lives,
is always gift enough.

With love and gratitude,
we wish you all the best, too.

A Mid-December Wedding’s
Well-Wishing Poem, No. 2

Our wedding day is near and our greatest wish
is that you are well and may travel here
to celebrate our decade-long love,
which has endured Murphy’s Law
and “waiting for the other shoe to drop.”
It’s true we have had our ups and downs,
but we made it through the rain,
with prayer, a sense of humor,
counting our blessings, and
taking everything with a grain of sand.
Sorry to digress, here’s the point
we want to make:
The best present is your presence,
so come, dance to the band, eat lots cake!
If you insist on shopping for a gift,
here’s a list that we made.
But with or without a gift, either way
please know your love and friendship
is all we need today.
